Uspenski Cathedral in Helsinki Finland

One of Europe’s largest Orthodox churches can be found in Helsinki, Finland. Uspenski Cathedral is built during the Russian occupation (1809-1917) in 1868 and designed by the Russian architect Gornostajev. What is interesting about Orthodox churches is that there are no desks to sit on. Then when I photographed a finnish Orthodox wedding ceremony in Helsinki, I could move around freely among guests and the bridal couple.

Near the cathedral is Helsinki’s oldest Russian restaurant Bellevue founded in 1917.
