Working in the aisle during the wedding cermony

When I work as a wedding photographer in the church I use two camera houses with different camera lenses attached on the bodies. It allows me to quickly change focal length without any delay or unnecessary clang. I am the first person receiving the bride and her father in time of the church. In an image that Johan Rosén has taken of me dressed in black, you see how I stand ready with two Canon digital SLR cameras.

I have a Canon Speedlite 580EX II flash mounted on each camera. Now I do not use the flash in each picture, but I try to vary the motives as much as possible. When I use flash light I try to bounce the light to any wall or ceiling as much as possible. In these pictures, I used the following settings on the camera; ISO 800, f/2.8 with a shutter speed of 1/40. As you can read in settings that it was the pretty dark in the church.

It pays for bride couple to move slowly in the church. They will get more and sharper images. If it goes too quickly, it is difficult to obtain sharp images specially whether it would be dark in the church. And a wedding photographer have time to perpetuate any event during the ceremony.

Brides father before the wedding cermony

A wedding bride’s father is waiting for his daughter before the wedding ceremony. Maybe he was as nervous then, when he was waiting for her just before birth. Moments that is forever documented by a professional photographer on the spot like a fly on the wall. The photographs will be memories that will help you to remember the whole wedding day. Do you want to remember your wedding?

An hour before the wedding ceremony…

What are guys doing an hour before the wedding ceremony? Why not get together and have a glass of champagne or two at Hotel Kämp in Helsinki City Finland. Last Saturday me and my assistant Johan Rosén started with the bride groom Kalle at the hotel before the wedding Ceremony at Johanneksen Church.

First wedding dance at NJK

Last Saturday I photographed a wedding for a fantastic fine bridal couple Annukka and Kalle both residing in Helsinki, Finland. It was throughout the 90 guests invited to the wedding and celebration held at the Yacht Club NJK near the Port of Helsinki.

It really paid off to have two photographers at the wedding and the couple can enjoy more pictures and some pictures with some cool effects like in this post of the first wedding dance.

My assistant and photographer Johan Rosén was behind the wedding the couple in this picture, and he hold up two flashes and a camera that was mounted on a tripod. Two Canon Speedlite 580EX II were connected to a Pocket Wizard (receiver). In the same bracket as the flashes was mounted, we had also mounted a Canon 20D with a 28 mm Canon f/1.8 lens. The camera, in turn, was linked to the same PW as the flash lights. (The flashes output set to 1 / 64 and the camera to f / 5.6 to ISO 800.)

On the opposite side of the flash setup, I stood and photographed. On my Canon 5D, I had a Pocket Wizard mounted, and while I took a pictures I also triggered both flashes and also the camera in same time.

It was the first time I tried this solution but we took some test shots the evening before the wedding shooting so we know that it would work. It was also possible do this kind of setups when you are not alone during the weddingday.

Come back soon to my blog and check out for more posts and photos of the couple from other occasions.

Pre-wedding shooting with Eeva and Lasse

Last Sunday, photographer Johan Rosén and I met wedding couple Eeva and Lasse in Kaivopuisto (Brunnsparken) in Helsinki, Finland. We went through their plans for the upcoming wedding on October 18. They will be married in Kallio Church. The church was completed in 1912, and the composer Jean Sibelius has composed the music for the bells.

We took couple of pre-wedding shots in a cloudy summer afternoon. Photographer Johan Rosén assisted me with the light of the flash, two Canon Speedlite 580EX II mounted on a tripod. The flash light helps to get sunlight feeling.
