Location photography, architectural and interior photos

I’ve got a assignment from the asset and property management company Newsec to make some photographs for two brochures. Newsec in their return are responsible to market their taskmasters and investors properties. I went to up to north of Finland and Oulu and Pilot Business Park. During the same trip I also had a stop at Dynamo in Tampere.

The Art Director Rami Hakala and the Graphic Designer Petra Flythström at the advertising agency Urho made an awesome job with putting some of my architectural and interior photographs together to some amazing brochures. Please note, couple of the photos below are made by some other photographers.

Marianne & Jaakku Porvoo Finland 26th of July 2008

I spend a day in Haikon Kartano to document Marianne & Jaaku’s wedding in Porvoo. Porvoo, Borgå in Swedish is located very close to Helsinki in Finland. Porvoo is a very nice old town, and worth visiting.

Here is some of the pictures from their wedding day.

Engagements portraits in Helsinki Finland

A month ago in July I met Marianne and Jaakku who lives in San Francisco USA in Kaivopuisto, Brunnsparken, in Helsinki City to take their engagements portraits. They are a wonderful couple and couple of days after the pre-wedding shooting I covered their wedding in Porvoo, Borgå, east to Helsinki.

Urho Kaleva Kekkonen gravsten

Jumbo in Vantaa Finland

Jumbo shopping mall by night. When I look at the photos under the heading Shops at Jumbo’s website, I get the feeling that it is a very empty shopping centre. What kind of feeling do you get? I can attest that the traffic is higher than what the pictures says. We live only a block from the mall.

Barnsjukhuset ligger i Mejlans Universitets sjukhus i Helsingfors.

Architectural Photography

I’m playing around with light and composition of architectural photography and specially real estates. It has been really cloudy here in Helsinki so it’s not so easy to find days with nice sunny weather. But yesterday the sun looked thrue the clouds.

I’m more used to edit and retouch portraits of women and haven’t done so much retouching of landscapes photos with buildings. Should I clone off the electric cables in the pictures?

Stolta svenskar utanför Sveriges ambassad i Helsingfors

Tölö in Helsinki Finland

I and my daughters visited the Sibelius park this evening and the Sibelius monument in the park. My idea was that I would get some good pictures of the monument, but I did not find a good camera angle so I will have an other try. I think I return at a sunrise instead.

Near the park is a pleasant cafe in Edsviken, Töölö. Café Regatta, which is quoted in today’s Hufvudstadsbladet is a quite incredible hospitable cafe. Unfortunately, I was out of cash so we may instead visit the place at a different time, even if we were offered to pay at a later date. Quite remarkable pleasant 115-years old place that offers everything from sausages bbq to a cup of coffee. Finally, I give a rose to the entire staff of café for the warm welcome.

Sandudds begravningsplats i Helsingfors stad

An hour before the wedding ceremony…

What are guys doing an hour before the wedding ceremony? Why not get together and have a glass of champagne or two at Hotel Kämp in Helsinki City Finland. Last Saturday me and my assistant Johan Rosén started with the bride groom Kalle at the hotel before the wedding Ceremony at Johanneksen Church.

First wedding dance at NJK

Last Saturday I photographed a wedding for a fantastic fine bridal couple Annukka and Kalle both residing in Helsinki, Finland. It was throughout the 90 guests invited to the wedding and celebration held at the Yacht Club NJK near the Port of Helsinki.

It really paid off to have two photographers at the wedding and the couple can enjoy more pictures and some pictures with some cool effects like in this post of the first wedding dance.

My assistant and photographer Johan Rosén was behind the wedding the couple in this picture, and he hold up two flashes and a camera that was mounted on a tripod. Two Canon Speedlite 580EX II were connected to a Pocket Wizard (receiver). In the same bracket as the flashes was mounted, we had also mounted a Canon 20D with a 28 mm Canon f/1.8 lens. The camera, in turn, was linked to the same PW as the flash lights. (The flashes output set to 1 / 64 and the camera to f / 5.6 to ISO 800.)

On the opposite side of the flash setup, I stood and photographed. On my Canon 5D, I had a Pocket Wizard mounted, and while I took a pictures I also triggered both flashes and also the camera in same time.

It was the first time I tried this solution but we took some test shots the evening before the wedding shooting so we know that it would work. It was also possible do this kind of setups when you are not alone during the weddingday.

Come back soon to my blog and check out for more posts and photos of the couple from other occasions.

Pre-wedding shooting with Eeva and Lasse

Last Sunday, photographer Johan Rosén and I met wedding couple Eeva and Lasse in Kaivopuisto (Brunnsparken) in Helsinki, Finland. We went through their plans for the upcoming wedding on October 18. They will be married in Kallio Church. The church was completed in 1912, and the composer Jean Sibelius has composed the music for the bells.

We took couple of pre-wedding shots in a cloudy summer afternoon. Photographer Johan Rosén assisted me with the light of the flash, two Canon Speedlite 580EX II mounted on a tripod. The flash light helps to get sunlight feeling.

A trip to Sveaborg in Helsinki with my kids

Last Thursday, we had a case to the Swedish embassy. My children needs a passports for an upcoming trip to Tallin end of July. As usual, you are always kindly responded at the Swedish Embassy in Helsinki. I did not have enough money for the passports but I could leave my children at the embassy staff to go away to pick out more money for the passports.

After our visit, we took a trip to the Sveaborg island. (Sveaborg is the Swedish name for the island, and in Finnish that would be Suomenlinna). The pictures here are from yesterday’s day trip. All photos are taken with a Lensbaby 3G attached to my Canon 5D.

A day in Borgbacken – Linnanmäki in Helsinki

The Children’s Day Foundation collects funds for child welfare work. “The Foundation maintains and develops the Linnanmäki amusement park, which is a place for people of all ages to have fun and laugh together.” In Swedish Linnanmäki is Borgbacken, and in English it would be like Castlehill. Our family spend a day at the park.

The first two pictures are taken by my daugthers, Olivia Hammar six years old, and Antonia Hammar eight years old. As you can see they start to be really good in photography. 3rd picture is taken by me and my assistent is Olivia who is holding a Canon Speedlite 580EX on camera left. You might can figure out where she is sitting in the bus. Last two pictures are taken with Lensbaby 3G.

Kocken ombord på skonaren Falken, porträtt on location
